Jon Jones to Fight Brock Lesnar

Jon Jones

Last Saturday, Jon Jones defeated Daniel Cornier to regain the UFC light heavyweight championship. Within moments, he decided who his next opponent will be.

“Brock Lesnar, You want to know what it feels like to get your ass kicked by someone 40 pounds lighter? Meet me in the Octagon.” JJ said, looking at the camera.

The challenge was not surprising. The hype began before UFC 214 when Jon Jones mentioned to face Brock Lesner during a Facebook Live chat. During the news conference on Wednesday, JJ said,

“I’ll deal with Daniel and then I’ll deal with Brock Lesnar.”

Brock Lesnar is under contract with the WWE. During another press conference, he hinted his interest to return to the Octagon and face Jon Jones saying “Would I fight Jon Jones? Anytime, anywhere.”

“Be careful what you wish for, young man,” Lesner added.

Lesnar and Jones both were suspended for one year after UFC 200 last year. Jones, who was about to fight Cornier, was pulled off from the fight and banned by the United States Anti-Doping Agency for failing a test. Lesner, on the other hand, failed two tests. Therefore, his win against Mark Hunt by unanimous decision was overturned to a no competition. Lesnar must serve his time to the final months.

Lesner recently turned 40 years old. Since 2011, Lesnar fought in the octagon only twice (One was a no-contest). His only victory in last six years is against Frank Mir. Jones, on the other hand, is only 30, and he has been with the game in recent years. He knows the game better than Lesnar.

Five of Lesnar’s last six fights earned more than 1 million pay per views. The only one that missed the million mark got 800,000 buys. Only Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey can attract such numbers of viewers. Therefore, JJ chose Lesnar for a mega-payday.
